Should i go to rhodes or crete

Are you planning an island getaway? Not sure if you should choose Crete or Rhodes? Culture Trip will help you decide. Here is a list of information that might help you make your decision. The length of your stay will determine where you should go. As Crete is quite vast, it requires a week to properly visit and explore the island renting a car is highly recommended.

Just like anywhere else in the world, you may stumble across a tourist trap serving food that is just okay. However, food in Greece is generally good, and Crete, being as expansive as it is with a plethora of regions and small villages, is a top destination for food lovers. On this island, you will discover that Cretan food is as diverse and delicious as you imagined it to be — whether it is sweets, savoury dishes or drinks. The great thing about Rhodes and Crete is that both islands have diversified sightseeing options; it all depends on what you prefer.

Crete has stunning archaeological sites such as the Minoan palaces, while Rhodes has the Acropolis of Lindos or the majestic medieval old town of Rhodes. This one is also a tie. Both islands have beautiful beaches which will make any beach-goer happy. Elli is particularly popular. The south is paradise for surfers and kite surfers, particularly Prasonisi.

Its miles of coastline is dotted with Blue Flag beaches, lagoons, wild coves and Caribbean-like white sands. Elafonissi Beach is probably the most famous, with its oft-Instagrammed rolling pink dunes and turquoise waters. Crete is a prime snorkelling destination too. For aquatic adventures, hotfoot to Voulisma Beach or Frangokastello Beach in the south.

Consider basing yourself in the northeast, which provides easy access to the Old Town and great beaches. For those looking for something in the middle, there are thousands of options, from boutique hotels to well-appointed apartments.

Both Crete and Rhodes offer a mild climate in winter and blistering heat in summer. Both destinations are popular in the summer, teeming with sun-seeking holidaymakers. Allie is a passionate traveller with a hearty interest in great food and stories. She likes to travel slowly, particularly to underrated and underloved places. And not only is Crete much less expensive, but it is actually a significantly cheaper destination.

So, traveling to Crete would let you spend less money overall. Or, you could decide to spend more money in Crete and be able to afford a more luxurious travel style by staying in nicer hotels, eating at more expensive restaurants, taking tours, and experiencing more activities. The same level of travel in Rhodes would naturally cost you much more money, so you would probably want to keep your budget a little tighter in Rhodes than you might in Crete.
